Alternative Therapies for Venous Disease Treatments in St. Louis, Missouri

Are you looking for an alternative to treating venous disease other than striptease? If so, you're in luck! Dr. Goke Akinwande, a vascular specialist at the Institute for Non-Surgical Therapy of the Midwest (MINT), has extensive experience treating varicose veins, alleviating symptoms and curing the underlying cause. At Dr. Louis Laser Lipo 26% Vein, we offer a variety of effective alternatives for varicose vein care.

Varicose veins can cause severe pain and without treatment, can lead to serious complications such as an ulcer that doesn't heal. To get rid of varicose veins, we use lasers (radiofrequency energy) or newer technologies such as glue, foam or catheter to irritate the veins. The basic principle is that a focused beam of light of a single wavelength is delivered transcutaneously (through the skin) following the course of a vein. This light is preferentially absorbed by the blood in the vein and converted into heat that will warm the vein and close it hermetically.

Over the next few weeks, the veins will disappear as the body reabsorbs them. In addition to laser vein treatment, we also use intense pulsed light (IPL) for small, unwanted veins and facial rosacea. IPL is a transcutaneous absorption of multi-wavelength, broadband white light. Sclerotherapy is another option for treating spider veins and reticular veins.

This technique involves injecting an FDA-approved chemical sclerosant into abnormal veins with an extremely small needle and syringe. The desired effect is to damage the inner lumen of the vessel so that it closes and dies; eventually, the body reabsorbs it. For larger varicose veins in the legs, we offer endovenous laser treatment which uses a laser fiber that travels through a catheter to the vein. The vein can collapse and close using precisely focused energy and eventually, it is naturally reabsorbed into the body without causing damage to surrounding tissues.

Visual sclerotherapy is also available for veins visible on the surface of the skin and sometimes also for the most prominent veins. At Midwest Vein Care, we are dedicated to providing our patients with safe and effective treatments for their venous disorders. We have conveniently located offices in St. Louis, MO; Wentzville, MO; Swansea, IL; Evergreen Park, IL; and Chicago, IL.
